Del Loy is a Mississippi artist who paints a variety of motifs featuring landscapes of the American South and Southwest. Victorian and Antebellum homes in his neighborhood frequently inspire work that feature the effects of sunlight and shade in the yard over the houses themselves. Scenes of tall, longleaf pines and fields of kudzu vine make their appearance in many of his paintings. As a former resident of Texas, Del often produces landscapes of twisting post oaks, bluebonnets, prickly pear, and limestone outcroppings.
Del has been a lifelong student of art. As a child, he drew on whatever paper was available, often the backside of brown paper grocery bags. In high school, he was the president of the Art Club yet pursued no further formal instruction in painting. During college, he began painting in oils but after marriage he focused on family and career. Six years ago, he picked up his brushes again after retiring from the family supermarket business in Natchez. He and his wife Renae moved to Brookhaven five years ago to be near to their son and family.
“A blank canvas invites me to explore. While a sketch, photo reference, or live setting offer inspiring motifs, expressing emotion with pigment and texture is what drives my art. Whether building layers over time, or getting it down all at once, painting is about interpreting the subject through composition and color. I find beauty in common places others may overlook. The goal is to inspire viewers to share my vision and enjoy the experience.”
While Del encourages collectors to visit his studio, he also exhibits in the ArtsNatchez Gallery in Natchez where he was featured Artist of the Month in October, 2026. He is also a member of the South Mississippi Art Association. Entries in SMAA juried shows have won two first prizes, in oil painting and in watercolor, one second place, and one honorable mention. In the Fall of 2025, he held a solo exhibition of thirty-seven paintings at the Lucile Parker Galleria on the William Carey University campus in Hattiesburg and will be the featured artist in Hattiesburg’s Festival South in 2027.
